In an apartment, a cat has no trees to climb or birds to chase. That is not a problem if the home offers what it needs. These are the five things that make the most difference in the day-to-day life of an indoor cat.
1. Height
Cats like to keep watch from above: it makes them feel secure. In a small apartment, the most practical solution is to expand vertically with a floor-to-ceiling cat tree or cat wall shelves, which don't take up floor space.
2. A window with a view
Watching the street is their television. A window hammock gives them a comfortable spot exactly where they already wanted to be.
3. A cozy hideout
Cats sleep for many hours a day, and they prefer enclosed spaces. A self-warming cave bed or a wooden side-table cat house gives them their own sanctuary. In winter, a self-heating pad without wires also helps.
4. Moving water
Many cats drink little from a bowl, but they will drink if the water is flowing. A cordless water fountain can be placed anywhere you like, without needing to find a plug.
5. Playtime when you're away
A bored cat will end up scratching the sofa. An automatic toy, a self-moving ball with a tail, or an exercise wheel help them burn off energy. And a good scratcher, like the cardboard scratcher house, gives them a place to scratch that isn't your sofa.
